WHY A DIAMOND PAINTING BOW MAKES THE PERFECT HOLIDAY ACCENT

A large sparkling bow made with a finished Diamond Dotz diamond painting canvas is a wonderful DIY holiday craft because it puts one of your sparkling dotted creations on display. Let’s face it, if you’re a diamond painting enthusiast, it’s likely that you have a stack of finished canvases in your stash –there is only so much wall space after all. Making a diamond painting bow is a creative finishing idea that delivers stunning results. Quick. Easy. Magnificent!

MATERIALS YOU’LL NEED TO CREATE A DIAMOND PAINTING BOW

The most critical supplies for the bow are your finished diamond painting canvas and a length of 2-1/2” wide velvet ribbon. The ribbon will become the bottom or base of the bow, and the diamond painting strips will be glued to the ribbon and become the sparkling top of the bow.

Other key supplies to make the bow are: a rotary cutter and cutting mat, a glue gun, a pair of scissors and some floral wire.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS: HOW TO MAKE DIAMOND PAINTING BOW

Creating a diamond painting bow is easier than it looks, and it’s a fantastic way to add handmade sparkle to your holiday wreath. Follow these simple steps to craft your own shimmering centerpiece:

Step 1: Choose and Prepare Your Diamond Painting Piece

Select a finished diamond painting canvas—preferably one with festive colors. (We used Santa’s Secret diamond painting kit, but any holiday-themed diamond painting will do.) Working on a cutting mat, use the rotary cutter to cut your diamond painting canvas into several long 2-1/2” wide strips (4-8 strips should work). You will also need one shorter strip to create the center of the bow. Cut velvet ribbon strips to match each dotted canvas strip.

Step 2: Reinforce the Strips

Working sections at a time, apply hot glue to the wrong side of each canvas strip (the non-dotted side). Almost simultaneously as you apply hot glue, adhere each velvet ribbon to each strip, wrong sides facing. This gives your bow structure and helps it hold its shape once formed. Trim ends of each canvas/velvet ribbon to neaten them.

Step 3: Create the Loops

Next, you’ll form ribbon loops. First take 1 strip of canvas/velvet ribbon and form it into a single loop, crossing its ends and pinching the ribbon at the center back. The pinching action creates a pair of loops. Repeat with the second strip. Layer second pair of loops on top of first pair, pinching them together in the center. Repeat for any remaining long strips, except for 2 strips for ribbon tails.

Step 4: Assemble the Bow Layers

Arrange your loops in layers, crossing them diagonally to create a rounded shape. Glue or staple each layer together at the center. For added interest, you can alternate between diamond painting strips and coordinating ribbon for a mixed-texture effect.

Step 5: Add a Center Wrap

Secure center of bow with floral wire wrapped tightly around its center. Wrap the small piece of canvas/velvet around the center of the bow to cover the floral wire. Secure it tightly and glue it in place for a nice neat finish.

Step 6: Attach to the Wreath

Once your bow is complete, use floral wire or hot glue to attach it to your wreath. Position it at the bottom center or off to one side for a balanced, professional look.
